I got the keyboard working connected to the third serial port!


Now I can think about disguising it as a screen cover connected to the internal connector with a flat cable.
About the folding keyboard, Ao Loo has found me a cheap Palm StowAway. It should be here in a week or so. We'll have it working soon, so start thinking about getting one! Remember that we're working with the Palm III keyboard, not the new ones for Palm V, etc..

The Newton is not the only platform who was left by its parents. The MSX is a very popular 8-bit computer launched in the beginning of the 80's and abandoned in the beginning of the 90's. It was also a platform, and hardware was built by many manufacturers as Sony, Yamaha, Philips, Panasonic, etc.
Its users where mainly concentrated in Japan, Europe and Latin-America, and they have been keeping the platform alive for another 10 years developing Hardware and software by themselves. Now, after 10 years, the company with the rights to do so wants to reintroduce it.

It's a sad read, and it looks like we are following the same path with the Newton.

Here is a nice article that has some relations to the Newton. Looks like Gaston Bastiaens has been busy after he left Apple. Bastiaens was the Vice President and General Manager of PIE at the time the Newton was launched, and has a good part of responsibility about what the Newton is, and isn't.
