Jeff Knee posted a nice idea to NTLK today. Is it possible to use a Newton as a caller ID box? Looks like it is, the only problem can be if your PCCard modem supports this function. None of my three modem allows it, but I took the idea and made Ringer, a customizable telephone ringer for the newton:
It's very easy to use:
Insert a PCMCIA modem into your newton, connect it to the telephone line and launch the program:
Ringer screeshot 1
Choose the slot where the modem is inserted, choose a ring sound, and tap connect. From this moment, if you receive a call, the newton will do some funny things. :-)
Ringer screeshot 2
You can also tap the star icon to minimize the window.
You can leave the newton connected for a lot of time, the modem will not drain the batteries too much in this state.
Its available for download from my programs page.
