I spent a lot of money today. Again. Today, it was new cd's. Usually, I look for used ones, but these were too hard to find. The store I bought them from gives out cards that get stamped every time you spend a certain amount of money. He gave me one and stamped 38 of the 40 boxes. Listening to them makes me really homesick because I listen to so much Jpop at home. Oh, and SMAP's new cd really is called 'Drink!'. The drink and cd were released at the same time.
This morning, I learned through Jakobina that I don't, in fact, get to keep the yukata. She said that our host mothers were talking at the speech contest and mine is upset because she did not make it clear to me that I don't get to keep it. I mean, after all, she made me pick the color and then she made me get fitted for it. Apparently, it's related to this 'beat around the bush' nonsense that keeps Japanese people from saying important things like that. I've grown rather attached to it now and I'm really pissed about it. I think I'll offer to pay them for it, and if they say no, I'll buy my own. Grr.
I was really late getting home. I showed up around 7 and felt really bad about it because I am always home before 6. I thought taking the bus home would be faster than going all the way back to the station, waiting for the train and then walking home. I'm not so sure it was a bit faster. And I was really tired because I found 'Tess of the Durbervilles' in English on tv last night and stayed up late to watch it. 'Late' being 12:30. I had a hard time getting myself up this morning.
We had a special lecture today. The guy was an American PhD of Linguistics from Tokyo University. He was extremely entertaining and it was a good talk. He was from some southern state and would periodically slip back into his accent. Kind of like me when I get excited. He talked about the problems you encounter when studying a foreign language. He said he'd lived in Japan for 19 years and received his phd from Osaka University.
Dinner was kind of crappy. It was more Japanese food than usual. Fish, yuk.
I'm supposed to be studying for a test tomorrow. I kind of fucked up by staying up late last night and then coming home late. I should have gone to sleep earlier and come home earlier. Now I'm just gonna fall asleep trying to study and get nothing done.
I went into a big kimono store today. The stuff they had was fabulous. And expensive. I wanted to buy some geta but theirs were too ugly. I bought a little stick with a dangly thing for my hair. I've always liked those. And fortunately, I didn't get that haircut I've been planning.
Tomorrow is calliagraphy class and then me and Rich are gonna climb the mountain.
